Overview
CSV Import allows you to quickly add or update hundreds of products in bulk.
By following the standard MerchPIM CSV template and using field mapping, you can ensure all product data is imported accurately and validated before syncing with Shopify or other channels.
💡 Why CSV Imports Matter
Bulk imports streamline catalog setup and ongoing updates, helping maintain consistency and speed when onboarding large product datasets.
With proper field mapping and validation, you can:
- Reduce manual data entry and errors
- Standardize product attributes across all SKUs
- Easily update existing products in bulk
- Maintain structured, Shopify-ready data
- Accelerate onboarding for new catalogs
Every import automatically validates field structure, formatting, and attribute mapping before creating or updating products.
⚙️ How CSV Imports Work
Step | Description | Expected Result |
|---|---|---|
Template Download | Download sample CSV to use the correct structure | File with standardized column headers |
File Preparation | Fill template with product data | Valid CSV ready for upload |
Mapping | Match CSV columns to MerchPIM fields | Preview confirms correct mapping |
Validation | System checks for errors | Warnings or errors displayed |
Import Execution | Upload and process | Products created or updated |
Steps
1️⃣ Open Import Tool
Go to Tools → Import.
Click Download Template to obtain the official CSV template.
Expected: Template downloads with required columns (e.g., SKU, Title, Description).
2️⃣ Prepare Your CSV File
Open the template and fill in your product data.
Include required columns such as SKU, Product Name, and Description.
💡 Tip: Follow the formatting guidelines in the template (comma-separated values, UTF-8 encoding).
Expected: File is clean, validated, and ready for upload.
3️⃣ Upload Your File
Click Choose File and select your prepared CSV.
The system analyzes the structure automatically.
Expected: Upload progress indicator completes, showing detected columns.
4️⃣ Map CSV Columns
In the mapping interface, match CSV columns to Product Attributes.
Auto-detection suggests mappings based on column names — review each to ensure accuracy.
💡 Tip: Use the preview panel to verify that sample rows display correctly.
Expected: All required fields are mapped and validated successfully.
5️⃣ Review Import Preview
The preview displays sample rows and flags validation errors or missing data.
Fix any critical issues before proceeding.
Expected: No red error indicators; all columns align with required fields.
6️⃣ Start Import
Click Start Import to begin processing the file.
Monitor the progress bar as products are created or updated.
Expected: Progress reaches 100% and system displays “Import Completed.”
✅ Validate
After import, confirm that all products appear in the catalog with the correct details.
Check that images, pricing, and attributes are populated correctly.
Verify that no products were duplicated or skipped due to validation errors.
Review the import log for any warnings or issues.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Import fails immediately | Incorrect file format | Save file as CSV UTF-8 |
Missing products | Required fields blank | Fill mandatory columns (e.g., SKU) |
Wrong data in fields | Incorrect mapping | Re-map and re-import file |
Validation errors | Unsupported characters | Clean special symbols or HTML tags |

- Validate and clean data using Excel or Sheets before upload.
