How to Manage Inventory Locations

How to Manage Inventory Locations

Audience: Admin, Inventory Manager

Prerequisites: Access to Settings β†’ Inventory β†’ Locations

Status: General Availability

Overview

Locations represent your physical or virtual warehouses where stock is stored, shipped, or tracked.

By managing multiple locations in MerchPIM, you can maintain accurate stock levels for each warehouse, avoid overselling, and sync inventory correctly with Shopify.

Each location in MerchPIM maps directly to a Shopify Location, allowing you to control inventory visibility and fulfillment per site.

Why Location Management Matters

  • Ensures real-time stock accuracy across multiple warehouses.
  • Enables location-based fulfillment in Shopify.
  • Prevents overselling and misrouted shipments.
  • Simplifies reporting and restock planning.

Steps

1. Open Locations Page

Navigate to Settings β†’ Inventory β†’ Locations.

Expected: A list of all existing locations displays with columns for Location Name, Address, Status, and Last Synced.

2. Add a New Location

Click + Add Location.

Fill in:

  • Location Name – Example: Main Warehouse, Toronto Store
  • Address – Optional but recommended for clarity
  • Status – Active or Inactive

Click Save.

Expected: The new location appears in the list with status Active.

3. Edit or Deactivate a Location

To rename or deactivate a location, open its record and adjust the details.

Inactive locations are excluded from active inventory syncs.

Expected: Updates save instantly and reflect in Shopify.

4. Assign Stock by Location

Go to Catalog β†’ Products β†’ [Select Product] β†’ Inventory Tab.

Enter stock quantities for each location listed.

Expected: MerchPIM updates available quantities per location, which sync automatically to Shopify.

5. Remove a Location

If a warehouse is permanently closed or merged, click Delete on the location record.

Note: This action cannot be undone and removes all associated stock data.

Validate

  • Each product should show a unique quantity per location.
  • Shopify should display matching inventory totals after sync.
  • Test by reducing stock in one location and verifying it doesn’t affect others.
