Overview
Completeness Scoring measures how fully each product is filled with required data — such as images, descriptions, attributes, and pricing.
This feature helps identify incomplete records and maintain catalog quality before publishing products to Shopify or other channels.
💡 Why Completeness Scoring Matters
Completeness Scoring ensures every product meets minimum quality standards before activation or sync. It helps:
- Maintain accurate, consistent product data
- Prevent incomplete products from going live
- Improve SEO and catalog health across all channels
- Reduce manual QA by tracking progress visually
- Enable data-driven prioritization for catalog teams
When configured properly, MerchPIM automatically calculates a real-time score for every product based on defined field rules.
⚙️ How Completeness Rules Work
Field Group | Example Fields | Weight / Impact |
|---|---|---|
Required | Title, SKU, Price | 50% |
Recommended | Description, Category, Media | 30% |
Optional | Advanced Attributes, Variants | 20% |
Steps
1️⃣ Open Product Completeness
Navigate to Catalog → Product Completeness.
Expected: The page displays all products with completeness scores shown as percentages beside each item.
2️⃣ Review Completeness Rules
Click Manage Rules to view which fields count toward completeness.
Field groups typically include:
- Required: Title, SKU, Price
- Recommended: Description, Category, Media
- Optional: Advanced attributes, Variants
💡 Tip: Customize these rules to reflect your data quality standards.
Expected: Rule configuration saves automatically and updates scoring logic.
3️⃣ Filter by Status
Use the filter options to show products below specific thresholds (e.g., <70%, <50%).
Expected: Table refreshes to show only low-scoring products that need review.
4️⃣ Identify Missing Fields
Click a product to view a detailed breakdown of missing fields.
Each entry indicates the field name and whether it's Required or Recommended.
Expected: Incomplete fields appear highlighted in red or amber for visibility.
5️⃣ Fill Missing Data
Open the product detail page directly from the completeness report.
Complete all missing fields, then click Save.
💡 Tip: Use the “Next Incomplete” shortcut to navigate quickly between products.
Expected: Product score recalculates and displays an updated percentage.
6️⃣ Set Completeness Targets
For larger teams, define a minimum completeness target (e.g., 80%) before products can be set to Active or synced to Shopify.
Expected: Attempting to activate products below the target shows a warning prompt.
✅ Validate
After setup, confirm that completeness scores update automatically after saving fields.
Verify that filters display correct product lists by threshold.
Check that missing fields appear correctly in detailed view and that updated data increases product completeness percentage.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Scores not updating | Browser cache or sync delay | Refresh or revalidate product list |
Missing fields not detected | Rules misconfigured | Revisit Manage Rules and adjust field groups |
Incorrect percentages | Optional fields weighted too high | Rebalance field weights |
Low-score filter not working | Wrong operator selected | Reapply filter using |
🌟 Best Practices
- Set realistic targets (70–90%) based on catalog maturity.
- Keep “Required” fields minimal for speed, add “Recommended” for accuracy.
